Pizza-rific Book Reports!

Image
For our book report of the month we read the genre of realistic fiction. After reading our books the class project was to make a pizza to represent the story elements. Each slice of the pizza identified the the story elements such as: characters, setting, conflict, plot and resolution. The students were then asked to make a top cover for the pizza and decorate it to look like a real pizza. They look almost good enough to eat!

Bridge STEM Challenge

Image
The 5th graders had to build a successful bridge that was at least 14 cm long. We first watched a short video on what makes a bridge strong. Then they drew a sketch of their bridge with their group. All groups were given the same amount of cups, toothpicks and marshmallows. They had 25 minutes to complete their bridges. The longest bridge that was made was 20 centimeters! Some groups were successful and some were not, but they learned what they could have done to get better support.
